Dance Design Experience.

Kinetic:

Kinetic was choreographed by Terrell Davis, the Co-Director of Dance for Denver School of the Arts.. He wanted to highlight the movement and chaos of the world by making the dancers feel as though they were molecules expanding and being shaken. This story was told through lighting with the constant movement of the lights, the shutter strobe, and the effects and cue lists timed with the music.

This piece utilized 13 cue lists, external executes, links, loops, and automatic follow cues. Learning how to use more than one cue list, learning how to prevent lists from walking over each other, and learning how to make precise automated cues was an incredible experience.

This piece was Choreographed by Chloè Grant Abel, the Co-Director of Dance at Denver School of the Arts. Both the choreography and the lighting concepts evolved a lot from the first semester to the second. Having the electrics in gave the stage a different dimension. Many of the light cues were timed precisely with the music which was also mirrored with the choreography. The piece featured several small groups of dancers, and the lighting design changed with each group to highlight the movements and lines of the dancers in each group.

Obscura

One of the things I learned most when working on this piece was making effects. This piece had several custom effects, of varying types and purposes, but it grew my knowledge and understanding of effects.

Aspire Dance Recital

This was one of 64 pieces that I designed for a dance school with students aged 3-18, the first full-length dance show I designed independently. This piece, called Human, performed by their Junior Company (11-13 year olds) was about embracing differences with vulnerability. This moment was the emotional high point of the piece and the simple stationary spotlight was used to give dimension and highlight the lift.
